The IRS announced on the evening of Monday January 7th, 2019, that it is prepared to start processing 2018 tax returns on Jan. 28, 2019. Moreover, it will pay tax refunds despite the partial shutdown of the federal government. About 90% of the IRS’ workforce has been furloughed, but the agency reserves the right to call them back to work in emergencies.
IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig said, "We are committed to ensuring that taxpayers receive their refunds, notwithstanding the government shutdown"
As you know, the past year has had some of the biggest tax law changes the Unites States has seen in over 30 years.
Be advised that the office of Tony Tax has been ready to accept returns since January 2, 2019. IRS customer service and support desk hours may be reduced but the processing of tax returns will continue, and refunds are expected to be paid.
The tax filing deadline this year is not April 15, but April 17, 2019.
